Dog Park Locations

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a countrywide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Chief Ladiga Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Jacksonville! A parking lot with easy access to the Chief Ladiga Trail is shown on the map below.

Dogs are allowed in most park areas as long as they are on a leash at Cheaha State Park in Delta, Alabama. For safety concerns, several bike and equestrian riding trails do not allow dogs. In stores, food service areas, bathhouses, pools, and swimming areas, dogs are not permitted. Petzooie cannot be left unsupervised, and if left in a heated car for more than 30 minutes, he will be confiscated. Cheaha State Park is suitable for access to the Kentuck ORV-ATV Trail because it is totally surrounded by the Talladega National Forest. The park also includes the Cheaha Trailhead of the Pinhoti Trail, which connects to the Appalachian Trail and provides access to the Odum Scout Trail and the Chinnabee Silent Trail.Hikers will find peace, native wildlife, and stunning waterfalls here.

The Talladega National Forest offers a variety of hiking paths, as well as picnicking and camping opportunities. Lake Chinnabee is a great place to go fishing, and the Shepard Branch Shooting/Archery Trail is a great place to practice archery. Talladega National Forest is pet friendly, so Petzooie may participate in the fun. Remember to keep Petzooie on a leash and clean up after your pets according to park guidelines.

Pets are welcome on the Cherokee Bluffs Dam Railroad Trail. This trail is open to both you and your canine companion. The trail follows a historic railroad bed that was utilized in the construction of Martin Dam in the early 1920s. Upper and lower trails are available to choose from. The low-line railroad trail runs up to a brook for 2.7 kilometers one way.

At John B Scott Forever Wild Trail, dogs are welcome to accompany their owners. This 4.4-mile circular trail near Tallassee, Alabama, runs alongside a beautiful river. It begins at the north end of the Goldmine Road parking lot, follows Yates Lake south through Kudzu Bluff, and then descends the historic Double Bridges Ferry Road switchback.

Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City, Alabama, is a dog-friendly state park and trail where Petzooie is welcome to accompany you on-leash to explore the park's hiking trails, as well as a range of other outdoor activities such as viewing the Piedmont Plateau or visiting the Lake Martin Amphitheater. Dogs are allowed on the campgrounds and in two of the cabins for an extra cost.

Walton Rocks Dog Beach is a 24-acre off-leash dog park in Vero Beach, FL, where dogs can play in the sand and surf. There are also covered picnic tables, bathrooms, and plenty of open space throughout the park.

Your dog is invited to accompany you on your journey through Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park, which offers breathtaking views of downtown and the coast. Many of the paths have mutt mitts available. Hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians can use the Westridge fire road to access trails along the north-south ridgeline. The park is connected to the "Big Wild," a 20,000-acre urban wilderness park. San Vincente Mountain Park in the San Fernando Valley and the end of Westridge Road in West Los Angeles provide access to the park.

The Sandy River Delta Park trail system has 1,000 acres of off-leash paths that lead to the Sandy River, where your dog can swim or wade. For hours, walk or hike. Due to Portland's regular rain, it might get muddy at times. Take I-84 to exit 18, stay on the road and cut back under 84; instead of taking the on ramp, stay straight and you'll be in doggy heaven! On Confluence Trail, dogs must be leashed.
