Petzooie is permitted in some areas of Joshua Tree National Park, which is home to two separate desert ecosystems: the Mojave and the Colorado. Pets must be kept on a six-foot leash at all times and are not permitted on any trails or in the wilderness. Dogs are allowed to explore picnic spots, highways, and campgrounds, but they must stay within a hundred feet of them. Dog owners should clean up after their pets and bring plenty of water with them, according to the National Park Service. A map of where pets are permitted can be found on Joshua Tree's official website. Year-round, Joshua Tree National Park is open twenty-four hours a day; however, some portions of the park are only open during the day.
