The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area's Zuma Canyon Trailhead is a beautiful hike. Leashed (no more than six feet) pets are welcome to accompany their owners on this walk, which is a beautiful area to see the seasons change. A diverse tree canopy creates a vibrant fall and winter season. The creek that runs through the canyon is active all year, yet it can be a trickle at times.

Dogs are welcome at Leo Carrillo State Park! The park's day use sections, campsite, and the beach north of lifeguard tower 3 are all dog-friendly. Backcountry routes and the beach south of lifeguard tower 3 are off-limits to dogs. The daily parking rate is $12. From 10 p.m. until 8 a.m., the gate is locked. After 10 p.m., there will be no admission.

Head up the Sandstone Peak Walk if you and your dog are experienced hikers seeking for more than a leisurely trail. This 6.25-mile circular route features a 1,075-foot elevation increase and offers wide views of the surrounding area once you reach the peak. Dogs should always be leashed, and their owners should tidy up after their pets.

Zuma Canyon Loop Trail is a pleasant hike in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Five miles of coastal shoreline, rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, craggy hills and uplands, two main river canyons, and broad grassy valleys interspersed with sycamores, oaks, and a few native walnuts make up Point Mugu State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains. All day use sites, including campgrounds and day use zones, welcome leashed pets. Backcountry trails and gravel roads are off-limits to pets. There are almost 70 miles of hiking trails in the area. Swimming, body surfing, and surf fishing are all available at the beach. The Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area's craggy pinnacles are part of the park.
