Dog Park Locations

Pets are welcome at Ohmer Creek Trailhead. This gravel route begins at a tiny parking lot off Mitkof Highway and follows the creek before crossing Woodpecker Cove Road. The road goes to a floating bridge across a beaver pond through a spruce and hemlock forest. Dogs on leashes are allowed as long as they are cleaned up after.

Wrangell-St. Pets are welcome at Elias National Park & Preserve. This beautiful natural area can only be visited by air and offers a chance to explore some of the most unspoilt portions of the United States. It is one of only 23 World Heritage Sites in the United States. Dogs are welcome to accompany you on the preserve's paths as long as they are leashed and clean up after themselves.

Petersburg's Sandy Beach is a pet-friendly neighborhood. Bring your dog to play with other dogs near Outlook Park on Frederick Sound's shore. Off-leash dogs are allowed if they are well-behaved and under voice control. Maintain the cleanliness of the water and the beach by cleaning up any trash left on the beach.

Girdwood's Moose Meadow is a dog-friendly trail. This 1.6-mile fairly tough trail will take you and your dog through gorgeous Alaskan scenery. You'll find a wonderful area to practice kicksledding with your dog depending on the season. Owners of dogs are reminded to tidy up after their pets.

It's a dog-friendly trek at Raven's Roost Trailhead. The Raven Trail is 4.2 miles long and begins near the State Run Sandy Beach Recreation Area on Sandy Beach Road. Hikers and their dogs are welcome to use the trail as long as they are leashed and clean up after themselves. The trail begins near the airport's east side. To get to the turnoff on the south side of the airport runway, take Haugen Drive or Sandy Beach Road. Keep an eye out for uphill trail signage. From the Twin Creek Road, hike or ski 5.4 kilometers up the underdeveloped and primitive Twin Ridge Ski Trail to reach the Raven Trail.

The Prince William Sound Kayak Center welcomes pets. They supply quality gear and fiberglass kayaks for journeys into Alaska's Prince William Sound, and have been doing so for over 30 years. If your dog has ocean kayaking expertise, he is welcome to join you on a kayak from this adventure outfitter. At all times, the dog must be well-behaved and on a leash. Pets are welcome to join you for no extra charge, but you must first obtain permission from the Prince William Kayak Center.

Denali State Park near Trapper Creek, Alaska, is a dog-friendly state park that is part of one of North America's most magnificently gorgeous places. The park's 325,240 acres, which is over half the size of Rhode Island, offer a wide range of recreational options, from roadside camping to wilderness adventure. The park is primarily a wilderness, with the exception of roadside services. For safe backcountry travel, you'll need the right gear, be in good physical shape, and have the right expertise. Because hiking routes aren't always well indicated, being how to read topographic maps is crucial, especially in bad weather. Pets are allowed in the backcountry if they are leashed and accompanied by their owners at all times; loose canines are allowed but must be under vocal command.Within 100 feet of a cabin, sled dogs and horses should not be tied. If you have a pet, please clean up after it.

Chugach Adventures offers a one-of-a-kind pet-friendly Alaskan adventure. Spencer Iceberg Float allows you to get up close and personal with beautiful icebergs at Spencer Glacier. Since 2001, Chugach Adventures has been the initial tour service at Spencer Glacier, helping to pioneer the area. Dogs on leashes are allowed on the tour as long as they are well-behaved and clean up after themselves.

The one-million-acre White Mountains National Recreation Area, about an hour's drive from Fairbanks, Alaska, offers breathtaking scenery, serene isolation, and year-round recreation possibilities such as hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, wildlife viewing, and scenic views. In the White Mountains, there are 12 lovely log cabins that provide numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. While visiting the White Mountains National Recreation Area, keep your cabin permission with you at all times. Two trail shelters are also located in the White Mountains National Recreation Area and are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. The picturesque pathways are open to dogs on a leash.

At state parks and campgrounds, pets must be leashed and accompanied by their owners at all times; unleashed dogs are permitted in the wilderness but must be under voice direction. If you have a pet, please clean up after it. Within 100 feet of a cabin, sled dogs and horses should not be tied. A lovely little campground is nestled behind a crystal-clear river, providing excellent fishing opportunities and a relaxing location to spend the day. There is a walkway along the river behind the campsites for those who prefer hikes and the chance to see animal and plant life up close. You can fish for grayling, whitefish, or salmon at the end of the trek.
