The 6-mile Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout trek is tough, but dog-friendly, and will take Petzooie around 4 hours to finish. This trail to Tahquitz Peak is less traveled and more dog-friendly than the other. Because this route passes through the San Jacinto Wilderness, leash regulations apply. Depending on where you start your hike, you'll need a wilderness ticket or an Adventure Pass.

Dogs are not allowed on the beaches at any time, but they are allowed in the campsite, day-use picnic sites, and on the Coastal Trail as long as they are kept on a leash no longer than six feet.

The El Chorro Dog Park on Dairy Creek Road is part of El Chorro Regional Park and offers a completely enclosed off-leash park with separate spaces for large and small dogs, as well as water spigots and splash baths. A day use area with barbeque facilities, a botanical garden, and various hiking routes are also part of the Regional Park.

8375. Hidden Valley Nature Center and Wildlife Area

Hidden Valley Nature Center and Wildlife Area in Riverside, California, offers 10+ miles of dog-friendly trails along the Santa Ana River and in the neighboring hills. A paved, 4-mile bike track is also available, which is ideal for dog walkers with strollers and youngsters. Please keep Petzooie on a leash at all times. There is a per-vehicle parking cost as well as a per-dog admittance fee. Please note that only cash is accepted at this location. There will be no debit or credit cards accepted.

McLaren Park is a park in San Francisco's Bayview district. The park is just about ten acres in size, but it is fenced in, allowing dogs to run free. The dog run is located at Shelly Dr. and Mansell St. at the top of the hill.

This 1.25-acre enclosed park, which has a separate little dog section, is perfect for licensed Santa Monica pups to play off-leash. Non-residents can get a temporary permit. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., we are closed for maintenance.

Gum Grove Park is a ten-acre oasis that is one of the area's largest and greatest dog parks. It is completely enclosed, with water and dog bags available at the Avalon entrance. There are two parking spaces for park visitors: the main entrance is on Avalon, and the second, smaller entry is off of Seal Beach Blvd on Herone Pointe. This park features an old closed main road running through it at the bottom, as well as many great trails branching off on the sloping hill above. The Hellman Trail, which is about a quarter mile north of the trailhead, is well worth a trek. Keep your dog on a leash at all times, as municipal leash rules are always in effect.
