In January 2003, Montgomery Parks opened its first dog park at Wheaton Regional Park. This half-acre dog park, located just past the new Wheaton Sports Pavilion, is surrounded by a six-foot chain-link fence, allowing dogs to run and exercise off-leash.

The Takoma Park Dog Park is an enclosed area where Fido can run about and play off-leash. Humans can sit on huge boulders and lush turf in the park. When entering and exiting the fenced area, dogs must be on a leash. Owners are expected to clean up after their dogs and provide them with fresh water.
