Dog Park Locations

A modest park with a tremendous impact is tucked away next to McCarver Elementary. The park's art is the focal point, as evidenced by the two giant concrete eggs, which are adorned with vivid, multi-colored tiles in the style of Ukrainian Easter eggs, or "pysanky," and feature shapes inspired by nature and children's art. Clare Dohna, a local artist, designed and erected two eggs that are similar but different. The artwork was created as part of the redevelopment of McCarver Park following the kidnapping and murder of Zina Linnik, a 12-year-old girl, in 2007.

Ferry Park, located at South 14th and Cushman, was Tacoma's first park. C.P. donated this modest park, which is just over half an acre in size. On May 14, 1883, he married Evelyn Ferry. The C.P. was platted by Colonel Ferry. The city added the Ferry Addition and set aside this plot of land for a park. He wanted to show the new and rising city of Tacoma how the European tradition of tiny parks strewn among residential neighborhoods might add to the city's charm and attractiveness.

A huge urban park in the United States is located in Tacoma, Washington. The 760-acre (3.1-kilometer2) park features the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, the Rose Garden, the Rhododendron Garden, beaches, trails, a boardwalk, a boathouse, a Washington State Ferries ferry dock for the Point Defiance-Tahlequah route to Vashon Island, Fort Nisqually, an off-leash dog park, and, most notably, an old-growth forest. It attracts around three million tourists each year. The Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma maintains and operates Point Defiance Park.

South of the Bridge, near to Chambers Bay Golf Course, is an off-leash beach access area for dogs. The park is 7 acres in size, with a 1 acre off-leash section and a separate area for small, shy, and senior dogs. SUNDogs (Safe, Unleashed, Natural), a non-profit organization based in University Place, Washington, maintains and funds it.

The Fort Steilacoom Dog Park, located between the historic barns and Waughop Lake Trail, includes 22 acres of fenced, off-leash open space.

Next to Morrison Pond, Paradise Pond Park is 9.5 acres of untouched natural land. Although there is no established trail system, there are a few unmarked routes.

Tubby's Trail Dog Park is a 9-acre dog park near Highway-16 with a broad, rectangular area ideal for throwing balls and grassy side slopes for your dog to go up and down. During the rainy season, it can become muddy as a collection area for extra water. It is completely enclosed and features a large and small dog area.
