Wonderful cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies can be found at the Big Pine Animal Shelter. Some are missing animals whose owners are not known. Others are animals that were kept as pets but whose owners are no longer able to care for them. There are young animals, older creatures, mixed breeds, and purebreds.

The animal shelter, which is located at 2579 Fair St. in Chico, is owned and run by the City of Chico. A division of the Chico Police Department is the Chico Animal Shelter. The shelter, which is a component of Animal Services, accepts sick and injured cats as well as abandoned and stray canines from the incorporated areas of the City of Chico.
