Animal Shelters

Stray, neglected, and abandoned domestic animals are taken care of by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office. The shelter often declines owner surrenders due to the enormous population of these kinds of unwanted animals.

Animal welfare is the focus of the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA), a neighborhood private nonprofit. One of our main initiatives is the PHS/adoption SPCA's of all of the healthy dogs and cats in our care. We also find homes for thousands of animals who are brought to us sick, injured, or too young to survive without support through our charity-funded Hope Program.

Our goal is to serve the community by offering a safe and healthy environment for the people who live here and their pets, all the while promoting animal welfare and educating people about having pets in a responsible manner.

The county's Animal Services division is in charge of upholding leash regulations, rounding up stray or runaway animals, and managing a shelter in Martinez.

The unique charity Helen Woodward Animal Center, founded in 1972, is a place where "people help animals and animals help people," offering educational and therapeutic activities for people as well as providing humane care and adoption for stray animals.

To care for, house, and successfully place in forever-loving homes domestic cat homeless;

To promote compassion and ethical treatment of all animals; and

To inform the public about the value of neutering or spaying their dogs.

The Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center promotes pet overpopulation education, humane care for animals in transition, adoption to suitable homes, and companion animal sterilization in an effort to end the suffering of homeless cats and dogs.

Regardless of the circumstances or conditions, our mission is to rescue homeless Golden Retrievers, Golden mixes, and similar breeds in Southern California from abuse and neglect.

A non-profit 501(c)(3) public benefit charitable organization, Friends of Upland Animal Shelter (Friends) is committed to preserving shelter animals throughout Upland and beyond. Friends is in charge of managing all sheltering and adoption services at the Upland Animal Shelter on behalf of the City.

Our goal is to find adoptable lost, abandoned, or surrendered St. Bernards, rescue them, provide the necessary care and medical attention, including spaying or neutering them, re-socialize them in foster homes, and then place them in long-term adoptive homes where they will be cherished and given the proper care.
