The only animal shelter in the county is the Jackson County Animal Shelter, which opened its doors in 1985. On three acres off Highway 90 in Gautier, it is situated next to the County soccer complex on Audubon Lane.

A no-kill sanctuary is provided by Helping Animals Live and Overcome (H.A.L.O. ), where extreme precautions are made to safeguard homeless pets and shield them from maltreatment and neglect. In order to engage our community, H.A.L.O. believes in offering them the tools, information, and programs they need to succeed.
