The Brainerd Lakes area's Heartland Animal Rescue Team (HART) was established in the spring of 1987 by a group of concerned locals. At the time, there actually weren't any advocates for abandoned, abused, or stray animals.

All rescued animals are cared for by Last Hope's network of foster homes until permanent homes are located. All of the animals in its network of foster homes receive veterinary care, food, supplies, and spay/neuter procedures through Last Hope.

We operate as a 501(c)3 non-profit. We function purely on volunteer labor and are supported only by donations and grants. We get kittens from neighborhood impounds, local rescues, and other community people.
