Animal Shelters

In Taos County, New Mexico, Stray Hearts is a humane care and shelter facility for abandoned, lost, and homeless companion animals. It works to reunite lost dogs with their families and is socially conscious.

Every month, the McKinley County Humane Society accepts more than 500 dogs and cats from within the city-county boundaries as well as from remote Indian reservations. It is preferable to go to the shelter in person to meet your new pet if you are looking for one because internet listings might not be accurate. All adopted animals are spayed or neutered before being made available for adoption. The McKinley County Humane Society sees a time where all animals have loving, permanent homes and are safe in both human and animal communities.

Animal Humane New Mexico, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1965, provides care for more than 10,000 dogs and cats who are homeless or in danger of becoming so each year. Since 2010, all healthy animals in our care have been adopted out. We never put animals to sleep based on their age or length of stay. At Animal Humane, we provide every companion animal with exceptional veterinary, social, and emotional assistance and love. As a private, nonprofit shelter, we get no money from the city, state, or federal government; instead, every dollar is wisely earned or raised.

The Watermelon Mountain Ranch was established in 1996 by Lee and Sophia DiClemente, whose passion of animals still permeates all aspects of the Ranch's daily activities. The New Mexico's Largest No Kill Animal Shelter, which has a 10 acre main campus building, two resale stores, off-site adoption facilities, and different humane initiatives for the community, grew out of a grassroots initiative that started with a small committed group of volunteers.

The only facility in west-central New Mexico that provides shelter and care for stray and homeless animals is the McKinley County Humane Society.

The Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center has an excess of adoptable dogs and cats, and the staff is in need of towels, small and big blankets without filling, washcloths, fleece blankets, and flat sheets that are either new or clean and in good condition.

The Valencia County Animal Control Division is dedicated to offering top-notch services for the welfare of the county's residents and animals.

The sole municipal open admission animal shelter in operation in Socorro County is the Socorro Animal Shelter (SAS). With agreements for sheltering services with Socorro County and the Village of Magdalena, the SAS is run by the City of Socorro.

We are requesting folks who want to surrender a pet to speak with an Animal Welfare representative before bringing your pet in. This will help us better manage our shelters and care for the thousands of stray animals that pass through our doors each year.
