When we first started, we had a tiny shelter where people could adopt cats and kittens. We usually adopt 150–200 cats annually, but we were having trouble seeing a decline in the number of stray cats in our neighborhood.

The Humane Society of Ottawa County was established in 1976. We are a NO KILL shelter and a 501(c)(3) (3). We offer resources and services to both human and animal residents of Ottawa County.

At Back Street Cat Rescue Inc., our goal is to assist stray cats and kittens in finding devoted, lifelong homes. Every cat we rescue receives the happily-ever-after we can provide.
