Channel Street Dog Park

The entire city, as well as the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, can be seen from this terraced park.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the San Francisco Bay Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in San Francisco! A parking lot with easy access to the San Francisco Bay Trail is shown on the map below.

With 3221 residential units and 9000 occupants, Parkmerced is a planned community of high-rise apartments and low-rise garden apartments. Many students and school employees make their home here and walk to their classes on campus at San Francisco State University.

There are two fenced-in portions for large and little dogs, as well as benches and water stations, in this off-leash park.

For you and your dog, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission has designated select park locations throughout the city as off-leash dog zones. Please help to ensure that all park visitors have a nice experience by maintaining these areas neat and clean and according to our new citywide dog policy.

The California Natural Resources Agency has awarded Recreation and Parks a substantial $2 million grant to rehabilitate the Dog Training Area near the Bison Paddock in Golden Gate Park.
