Elk River Lodge State Park

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a countrywide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Richard Martin Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an underused railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Fido in Elkmont! A parking lot with easy access to the Richard Martin Trail is shown on the map below.

Joe Wheeler State Park near Rogersville, Alabama, is a dog-friendly park divided by the Tennessee River, which creates the 69,700-acre Wheeler Lake. In the glittering seas where sailboats and yachts glide side by side, bass, bream, and catfish abound. In addition to easy access to the Tennessee River, the park offers hiking and mountain biking trails that allow you to reconnect with nature and view some of the best scenery that north Alabama has to offer. Dogs are allowed in most areas of the park if they are on a leash. For safety concerns, several bike and equestrian riding trails do not allow dogs. In stores, food service areas, bathhouses, pools, and swimming areas, dogs are not permitted.Dogs must not be left unsupervised, and if they are left in a heated car for more than 30 minutes, they will be confiscated.

Your leashed dog is welcome to join you for a pint in the beer garden at Cross-Eyed Owl Brewing Company, a dog-friendly craft brewery in Decatur, AL. While you're there, try their Cream Ale, Dragoon Red Ale, One Shoe Brown Porter, or Lechuza Mexican Lager!

Mill Creek Dog Park is a 1.43-acre fenced park that runs parallel to the Mill Creek Greenway. It is separated into three sections. The 20-foot-by-30-foot staging area at the park's entrance allows dog owners to let their pets loose before allowing them inside the play areas. The play spaces are divided into two sections: one for tiny dogs weighing less than 25 pounds and another for larger dogs weighing more than 25 pounds. Both pets and humans have access to drinking water, as well as garbage cans and dog waste bag dispensers. There are many shade trees in the region, as well as gently undulating grassy meadows.

Pets are welcome at Academy Sports Outdoors. This sports goods store, which sells athletic apparel and footwear as well as outdoor gear and fitness equipment, welcomes dogs. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Academy Sports Outdoors is open.

Near Indian Creek Greenway is Dog Spot in Creekwood Park. Huntsville has a number of off-leash doggy play facilities known as "Dog Spots." Each is about the size of two football fields and was built with dog safety in mind, including a separate play area for dogs under 25 pounds. Unless otherwise noted, Dog Spots are open to dogs and their owners during standard park hours, which are from sunrise to one hour after dusk.
