Spend a day with your dog hiking the Desert Vista Trails in Phoenix, Arizona. There are a number of paths that branch off from the trailhead, ranging in length from one to six miles. The track begins in a residential neighborhood, but soon takes you to what appears to be the middle of nothing, providing you the comfort of being close to civilization while still feeling remote. Take pictures of the owls that nest along the paths, but keep an eye out for more harmful desert wildlife, including rattlesnakes. At all times, dogs must be leashed. Bring enough water for yourself as well as Petzooie.

163. Iron Springs Railroad Trail

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a countrywide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Iron Springs Railroad Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Prescott!

Bring Petzooie to Kierland Commons in Scottsdale, Arizona for a day of shopping. It is an outdoor mall, but there are enormous awnings and trees to provide shade, as well as water misters stationed along the pathways, to provide relief from the heat. There is lots of parking at this shopping mall, and you can pick between self-parking and valet service. There are numerous shops in various price levels, as well as a selection of chain and independent eateries. Individual stores and restaurants determine whether or not dogs are permitted inside, and dogs must be leashed at all times.

There is free parking and a free trolley service to Scottsdale Fashion Square, which is also dog friendly, every 10 minutes. The Old Town is a great place to soak up some western charm and pick up gifts for family and friends back home. From November to June, the pop-up farmers market is open on Saturdays. Stop by one of the area's pubs for a refreshing drink after roaming around in the heat. At all times, dogs must be leashed.

The Arizona Historical Society's Fort Lowell Museum is housed in the restored Commanding Officer's quarters on the grounds of today's Fort Lowell Park. The museum of Fort Lowell, which was founded in 1873, features exhibits depicting military life on the Arizona frontier. Historic interpretative signage can be found throughout the park for you to appreciate while walking with your pets. Four-legged guests receive dog treats from the museum.
