The only municipal shelter with open access in Middlesex County is the Middlesex County Animal Shelter. We take in stray animals that are in need, owner-returned dogs whose owners can no longer care for them, and animals that Animal Control has confiscated or brought into custody.

The Humane Society of Shenandoah County was established in the 1970s by a group of locals concerned about stopping animal cruelty. Since then, these volunteers have had a huge positive influence on the citizens and animals of our area.

The municipal animal shelter with open admission serving Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County is called Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center. All stray, abandoned, and owner-surrendered animals from these areas are taken in by us.

For more than 30 years, the Salem Animal Shelter has taken care of and found homes for the city of Salem's stray dogs and cats.

Other tiny companion animals including gerbils, guinea pigs, birds, and rabbits are also brought to the institution. Depending on their type, these little companion animals need particular care and frequently need to see a veterinarian.

We are a non-profit, all-volunteer group that works in the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina to rescue, foster, and place Labrador Retrievers in permanent homes.

The non-profit, racing-neutral Blue Ridge Greyhound Adoption (BRGA) serves all of Northern Virginia as well as the surrounding regions to the east of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
