Great Lakes Dog Rescue's goal is to rescue well-mannered, adoptable dogs from animal control facilities and owner surrenders, and to provide them with food, shelter, and medical attention until they are adopted. Our goal is to help the neighborhood become more responsible pet owners by educating and supporting them.

We are the only animal shelter in Mecosta County. A group of concerned animal lovers came together to form ARC in 2011 with the goal of bettering the conditions for Mecosta County's dogs and cats.

In order to lessen factors like stress, anxiety, and fear, this approach prioritizes the experiences of animals in the shelter. While some aspects are more subtle than others, certain things are clear (such lowering the sounds of loud, abrupt noises) (limiting who is walking past cages)

The Arenac County Board of Commissioners administers Arenac Co Animal Control as a county-funded program. The entire county of Arenac is serviced by Arenac County Animal Control, which yearly cares for about 1000 animals.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization serving the Mid-Michigan region, The Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) is independently run and dedicated to the welfare of animals. At the Isabella County Animal Control facility, HATS is the only company with a contract to handle all animal care and adoption services.
