Spay/neuter, adoption, education, shelter, and community engagement are all ways that DCPR assists animals in need.

Since 1991, Leavenworth County's animals have benefited from LAWS, a 501 (3)(C) non-profit organization run by devoted volunteers. Donations are our only source of funding.

Additionally, the Animal Control Shelter's unclaimed animals can be adopted thanks to Leavenworth Animal Control. Pet owners are strongly encouraged to spay or neuter their animals by Leavenworth Animal Control.

A group of locals in Jefferson County, Kansas, who were concerned about stray and abandoned animals founded the Jefferson County Humane Society in 1998. JCHS established a no-kill shelter in Valley Falls on January 2, 2006.

The sole organization trying to construct and run a no-kill pet animal sanctuary for all Leavenworth County citizens is Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc.

The only organization working to construct and run a no-kill pet animal shelter for all Leavenworth County residents is Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc. We run out of a converted plant nursery that has room for 10 dogs and up to 20 cats while we raise the money to build.
