Dr. Garruba has always had a deep affection for animals, and as a youth he discovered his interest for animal health. At the age of 14, he applied for working papers and began cleaning cages and feeding dogs at Weber's Kennel after school and on weekends. After that, he obtained a position at the Lawrence Animal Hospital, where he had the opportunity to learn about every facet of a veterinarian clinic. During the summers of his student years, Dr. Garruba worked there as an assistant and later as a veterinarian.
