Wines from Sonoma and Napa Valley are available for tasting, and the enormous culinary gardens and fruit orchards that span the lovely winery grounds and vineyards are a sight to behold. Unless the weather is inclement or the crowds are too dense, dogs are invited to sit outside on the terrace while guests enjoy samples. Inside the grape structures, only service animals are authorized. Call ahead to schedule tours and private tastings.

Alston Park in Napa, California, is a vast natural preserve with a fenced-in area where dogs can run free. The enclosed area includes agility equipment, a huge water pan with running water, and a double entry system to assure the safety of all dogs entering and exiting. For dogs under adequate voice control, a substantial chunk of the park is off leash. Dog waste bags, as well as several cans in which to dispose of the waste, are freely available. There is also a significant section of the park that is only open to leashed dogs.
