During the early morning hours or late evenings, most public beaches in the Myrtle Beach area are pet friendly all year. Dogs are only allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. from May 1 to Labor Day. From May 1 through Labor Day, dogs and bicycles are only permitted on the boardwalk between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Dogs are allowed on the beach at any time from the day after Labor Day to April 30 each year. When dogs are allowed on the beach, they must be kept on a leash that is seven feet or shorter at all times, and their owners must pick up and properly dispose of their dog's waste.

There are two off-leash dog parks in Myrtle Beach where owners can let their pets run and play. Both parks are completely enclosed, with separate sections for large and small dogs.

A visit to James Island County Park is a fantastic way to spend a day in Charleston with your pooch. This park has a dog beach, four acres of open grassland space, a cleaning station, a gated play area for little dogs, and garbage stations, and is said to be the best dog park in Charleston.

Page Ellington Park (BullStreet District) has a dog park that is open to the public and free. There are shady chairs and water for the dogs in the completely gated dog park. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout Page Ellington Park, which has running and walking pathways, shelters, and a natural water habitat with a two-acre pond.
