Can I Take My Dog to Balboa Park?

Grape Street Dog Park
Off-Leash Timings: 7:30 AM – 09:00 PM
Grape Street Dog Park is considered the largest dog park inside Balboa Park. It has a total area of 5 acres and contains open fields and separate clean restrooms for dog owners to relax. Additionally, this dog park has beautiful water fountains for dogs to play in.
Grape Street Dog Park has a lot of perks when it comes to dog runs. The park allows off-leash runs for dogs from 7:30 AM to 09:00 PM. The timings on the weekends can be variable and subject to the maintenance routine of the park.
Morley Field Dog Park
Timings: 24 hours
Morley Field Dog Park is the second park with some immense and beautiful spots. You and your dogs can enjoy the Florida Canyon Natural Trails after gaining easy access. Morley Field Dog Park has a vast off-leash area for dogs.
The off-leash dog run area is covered in small trees and offers a perfect spot for dogs to play. Complimentary dog poop bags are available and several litter-bag dispensing stations are present throughout the park.
Nate’s Point Off-Leash Dog Park

Every dog owner in San Diego admires the beauty of Nate’s Point Dog Park. These 2.3 acres dog park is functional since 1996 and has some attractive spots inside. You can find several amenities inside including dedicated water fountains and grassy playing fields.
You can also have fun with your dogs on the designated picnic tables. The park is functional 24 hours throughout the year and has fenced areas for off-leash runs.
Balboa Park Museum Policy for Dogs
The Balboa Park administration only permits the entry of service dogs inside the museum. However, each dog must stay on a leash and is not allowed to roam around without the handler. The owners are responsible to pick up and dispose of the waste of dogs in dispensing stations.
Other Dog & Pet-Friendly Places in Balboa Park
The off-leash runs for dogs are only available at the designated three dog parks inside Balboa Park. However, the dogs are required to roam around with owners on leash inside the park and outdoors.
Balboa Park is a pet-friendly place where you can take your comfortable and social pets at minimal charges. In the case of buildings such as museums and others, dogs are not allowed inside except for service dogs.
Balboa Park's botanical garden is another sweet spot for your pets. The park allows entry into the botanical garden but on a leash in case of dogs. Plucking and destroying plants is prohibited and owners are responsible for the waste management of their pets.

Guidelines for Dog Owners at Balboa Park
- The dog parks at Balboa Park are the only off-leash areas for dogs and pets.
- All the dogs must be on-leash at outdoor spots including sidewalks, Islands, and Gardens.
- No dogs are allowed inside the Balboa Park buildings except service dogs under the supervision of their handlers.
- Dogs are not allowed to roam freely on the Trails & Canyons without owners.
- Dog owners must show complete vaccination and health record of the dogs before entering any of the three dog parks.
- Dog owners must collect dog poop bags from the Balboa Park waste management staff before entering the park.
- All the owners are required to pick up the dog poop in the waste bags by themselves and dispose-off at dispensing stations.
- Bringing the dogs for off-leash runs outside the off-leash run timings is prohibited and violation of SDMC Balboa Park rules.
- Dogs and any other kind of pets are not allowed at Balboa Park San Diego Zoo and other Safari Parks due to safety concerns.

Very beautiful park. There's tons of people walking their dogs and I never see poop anywhere. Usually there's more such as public restrooms are open though. The outdoor restaurant there is also open.

Balboa Park is seriously our favorite place in San Diego! Yes, the beaches are great however the green space is incredible at Balboa Park. We have 2 dogs so it makes the park a great place to explore with them.
