Lee County Humane Society was established in 1974 to address the expanding issue of stray animals in our neighborhood. Animals were taken into the homes of a group of dedicated and kind volunteers who tried to find them permanent homes while fostering and loving them. In 1976, LCHS purchased land along Highway 280, where the shelter now resides. The community-run, volunteer-run organization was able to hire staff and eventually start expanding the facilities thanks to donations and volunteer work.

Macon County Humane Society is committed to rescuing and caring for abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. Our mission is to provide a safe shelter, medical treatment, and rehabilitation to help animals regain their health and trust. The Chattahoochee Humane Society's mission is to improve the lives of companion animals through initiatives to stop animal cruelty, encourage responsible pet ownership, and lessen the number of strays by promoting companion animal spaying and neutering. It also offers shelter to stray animals in the Chambers County region.
