Dr. and Mrs. Tom Bird founded Pets & Friends Animal Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado, as a sole business in 1984. Until his retirement in 1995, he significantly expanded the company. Pets & Friends Animal Hospital, L.L.C., a Limited Liability Company, purchased the firm in 1996. Pets & Friends became a solo proprietorship in 2002, and Lori Mugasis, DVM, is the current owner. Pets & Friends has built a reputation for offering the best veterinary care possible over the years.Exams, vaccines, surgery, nursing care, pharmaceuticals, pathology services, dentistry, quality pet products, a clean facility, knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous employees, and doctors and staff who love animals and want to provide the best care possible are all available at our small animal practice.

The Southern Colorado Spay and Neuter Association (also known as "SoCO" in the community) is a low-cost, non-profit veterinary facility that offers low-cost, preventative treatment to southern Colorado's homed and unhomed pets. This non-profit has operated out of the same location on the south side of Pueblo since 1997, sterilizing over 93,000 pets and providing hundreds of thousands of immunizations to neighborhood pets without regard for their financial situation.
