Simon was my first canine companion. He was six months old when I rescued him from the pound. I didn't find out what was legally allowed in dog food until he was nine years old. I was both surprised and annoyed. I discovered not only deceptive labels, hazardous chemical preservatives, and revolting "ingredients," but also an unregulated industry. One that is severely damaged.

It all started in 1988, following a failed hunt for high-quality, beautiful cat furniture for our four fussy cats. We realized that if we wanted something done properly, we'd have to make it ourselves as our house filled up with rejected, unsightly, impractical, and poorly made scratchers. The window perch and the cat scratch triangle were born as a result. We realized we weren't alone in our irritation when friends began requesting us to manufacture scratching posts for their cats, and C&D Pet Products, LLC was born.
