The beach that runs beneath the Douglas Family Preserve in the City of Santa Barbara is dog-friendly and off-leash; it starts east of the slough at Arroyo Burro Beach (locals call it Hendry's Beach) and stretches almost to the steps at Mesa Lane. The eastern limit is defined by fallen eucalyptus trees. From the Arroyo Burro parking lot, go to the beach, turn left, and bridge the slough to reach the off-leash legal area. Please keep your dog on a leash until you cross the slough, both in the parking lot and on the beach.

Santa Barbara City College

A trail goes along the cliff from the east to the west side of campus, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, harbor, and beaches. A grassy area on the west side of campus attracts a large group of well-socialized dogs and their welcoming owners every Saturday morning and many weekday evenings. If you're staying at one of West Beach's pet-friendly hotels, simply cross Castillo Street, go through the park, and up the hill toward City College (on the left of the tennis courts). Stay to the left and seek for the gardens that hug the cliffs, then proceed past the stadiums to the pedestrian bridge that connects the West Campus to the rest of the campus. The bridge leads to a large grassy area with a path on the left and (usually) a large number of friendly, lively dogs.
