Gulfside City Park welcomes pets. Gulfside City Park is one of Sanibel Island's several pet-friendly beaches, and it's close to a City of Sanibel and a Federal nature preserve. During much of the year, the beach is also home to threatened and endangered breeding shorebirds and sea turtles. Dogs must be kept on a leash (maximum 8 feet) at all times, and owners must clean up after their pets as required by law. Picnic tables, wash stations, and restrooms are available, and parking is charged hourly between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. (free after 7 pm).

Lee County Dog Beach (Bonita Beach Dog Park)

Along the edge of Lover's Key State Park is Lee County Dog Beach, popularly known as Bonita Beach Dog Park. It's an off-leash beach where you can let your dog run about and play in the Gulf of Mexico's shallow, calm water. There are no barriers, no leashes, and no concerns. There are numerous dogs of various sizes to play with. Many visitors do not own dogs but enjoy seeing them run and play with their canine companions on land and in the water. You can't see it from the main road, but if you follow the signs around the woods, you'll find Dog Beach in a clearing. You may have to wade through some water to get to there during high tide, so be prepared.

Fort De Soto Dog Beach Park

Large enclosed spaces for both large and small dogs, as well as dog showers, are available in Fort De Soto Park. Dogs on a six-foot leash are allowed anywhere in the park except on the beaches. The Paw Playground area is an exemption; dogs are permitted on the beach and are permitted to be off-leash in that area. They are also allowed to run around freely within the gated areas. On a hot summer day, you can hose down your dog to keep him cool, and there is also drinking water accessible. Two-legged visitors will find lots to do at the park, including exploring an old Spanish fort, beautiful parks, overnight camping with plenty of utilities, and picnic sites. "America's #1 Beach" was given to the north beach.
