Shirley Canyon Trail is dog-friendly and regarded as one of Lake Tahoe's top half-day walks. This 3.6-mile trip takes dogs and their owners past waterfalls, granite rocks, and vistas of Squaw Valley. Because the Shirley Canyon Trail is tough to navigate, owners are advised to wear hiking boots. "Keep the creek on your right and follow it up for about 2.5 miles until you come to enormous granite rock slabs; you will cross this part and continue up to Shirley Lake," hikers should remember. When riding the AerialTram, dogs must be leashed; however, owners should use their best judgment when deciding whether or not to leash their dogs on the route.

During the off-season, the Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram in Olympic Valley, CA, is dog-friendly. When the ski season is over, grab your dog and ride the aerial tram for a scenic ride. The tram journey up the mountain costs money, but if you climb up to high camp (height 8200 ft) with Fido, the tram will give you both a free ride back. The Shirley Lake Trail is the best way to get there. Shirley Lake, a renowned dog-friendly swimming hole, is a 3-hour hike with a rest stop. Petzooie is also welcome at the tram's top restaurant's outdoor tables.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Truckee River Bike Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad track, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Tahoe City! Dogs are welcome to join you on a Tahoe City Kayak rental out on the water. Dogs are not permitted in the Tahoe City Kayak building, despite the fact that the rentals are pet-friendly. Dogs of all sizes are allowed to join you on the more than 8 kilometers of ski trails at Tahoe Cross Country. Although skijoring is not permitted on the trails, Petzooie can cross-country ski beside you and enjoy the snow. Although leashes are required at the parking lot and at the trailhead, your dog can enjoy the trail without one as long as he remains under your voice control.
