Dogs are welcome at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Paria Plateau, Vermilion Cliffs, Coyote Buttes, and Paria Canyon are among the geologic wonders of this 294,000-acre monument. Hiking in Coyote Buttes North (the Wave), Coyote Buttes South, and overnight stays within Paria Canyon all require a permit. Dogs, too, can apply for permission to visit the protected regions. You'll need to do some extra planning and be cautious of any dangers. Rugged and unmarked roads, venomous reptiles and invertebrates, intense heat or cold, deep sand, and flash floods are all to be expected. Bring lots of water, food, and gasoline, as well as a full-size spare tire.
