Stragent Dog Park (On Paul Boorman Trail)

At this dog park, dogs are allowed to play off-leash. There is a separate section for little and large dogs in this park. A drinking fountain is also available for thirsty pups.

Thousands of people displaced by a deepening national depression turned this land into a makeshift tent city after the discovery of oil here in the 1930s. In 1934, city officials decided to focus an ambitious public works program on this site in order to restrict expansion. The park project was influenced by the planning and forethought of other Federal "New Deal" projects in Kilgore at the time, which involved considerable rock construction (Kilgore Public Library and Kilgore College Administration Building).
