Arkansas Post National Memorial

Dogs are invited to visit the Arkinsas Post Museum for free to learn about life on Arkansas' Grand Prairie and in the Arkansas Delta from 1877 to now. The five buildings on site have a large and varied collection of memorabilia, and Petzooie can accompany you inside all of them.

You and your pet can go hiking in the Coastal Plain's 2,171 acres of forests or go fishing at Cane Creek Lake at Cane Creek State Park. Simply keep Petzooie leashed at all times.

Learn more about this crucial chapter of American history by visiting the location where over 8,000 Japanese Americans were imprisoned during WWII. Leashed dogs are permitted to visit the site with their humans. Visitors should first visit the World War II Japanese American Internment Museum to learn more about the site's history and the people who were imprisoned there. The museum can provide specific instructions to the place, or you can consult the websites.

At Lake Chicot State Park, bring Petzooie along for a fishing trip. Just keep your pooch on a leash while on land. Lake Chicot is the largest natural lake in Arkansas and the largest oxbow lake in North America, measuring 20 miles long. Anglers flock to the area all year because of its magnificent waters. The park is located near the Mississippi River and is part of one of the country's greatest flyways, making it ideal for birdwatching.

Pets are welcome at Louisiana Purchase State Park. This park marks the spot where the United States and France made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, when the US paid $15 million for 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississipi River. You and Petzooie can travel along the elevated boardwalk above the surrounding swamp to the granite monument that marks the beginning of the survey. This park is only open during daylight hours.

Pets are welcome at Delta Heritage Trail State Park. Take your dog for a walk along the trail, which passes through a variety of wildlife habitats and gorgeous vegetation. The route is currently 44 miles long, but it is constantly developing, with the goal of completing the entire rail-to-trail line at 84.5 miles. Delta Heritage Trail State Park is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.
