Leashed dogs are accepted on the trails and in the picnic areas at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. The beaches and bathing areas, however, are not dog-friendly. The Lower Lake is used for non-powered boating and canoeing, while the Upper Lake is used for sailing, powerboating, water and jet skiing, and fishing. From sunrise to sunset, the Castaic Lake State Recreation Area is open.

Central Bark Off-leash Dog Area

The 1.3-acre dog park is adjacent to the multi-use fields near the back of Central Park. There is a separate area for tiny dogs and a separate area for larger dogs at this off-leash dog park. The time frame is from daybreak to dark.

The San Fernando Road Bike Path is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a statewide network of trails from abandoned rail lines and connecting corridors. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Sylmar!
