A 501(c)3 community-based non-profit group called Neighborhood Pets offers low-cost wellness care, a free spay/neuter program, a pet food bank, assistance with veterinarian care, inexpensive pet supplies, and endless counseling and services as required.

165. Dogs Unlimited Rescue

In 2010, when Gina Lutes-Finley, our founder and executive director, decided to start her own rescue after spending many years working for other rescues, we received our 501(c)3 designation. Her main concern is the health and welfare of every animal we have the opportunity of helping, as well as making sure that each one finds their very own happy, loving, "furever" home.

The Division of Animal Care and Control of The City of Cleveland runs the CITY DOGS Cleveland program (CACC). The goal of CITY DOGS is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by improving public perceptions of pit bulls, who make up the majority of the kennel's residents, fostering loving homes for all of the kennel's adoptable dogs, and providing as many opportunities as possible for people to meet and fall in love with our dogs as the wonderful pets they were meant to be.

The Jefferson County Humane Society (JCHS), one of the oldest charitable organizations in our area, was first formed in 1915. It was created to be an advocate for Jefferson County's animals and at that time, before children's services programs, it was also an advocate for children. Children's Services and the Humane Society still have a reporting and information-sharing agreement in place.

Northeast Ohio-based Maddox and Friends is a 501c3 non-profit cat rescue that focuses on the rescue, treatment, and adoption of cats and kittens with medical issues.

170. Ashtabula County Dog Warden

The Ashtabula County Dog Warden is responsible for the gathering of stray dogs and, if feasible, the return of canines to their owners. In order to verify that dogs are under control and do not present a threat to the public, the Dog Warden also conducts interviews with dog owners who are breaking the law. Responding to complaints about dogs or owners breaking the law, the Dog Warden. The Dog Warden also looks into livestock claims, investigates dog bite instances that have been reported to the police, and verifies dog permits.
