Our rescue facility is called Cracker Box Palace. As the only large animal and farm animal shelter in the area, we collaborate with the county and neighborhood humane societies to take in and care for sick or injured animals. Around 100+ horses, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, geese, chickens, bunnies, and a few patrolling cats are currently among our residents.

When it comes to animal control and dog ownership, the WPD Animal Control Officer(s) are responsible for understanding, clarifying, and enforcing state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances. They do this by responding to resident calls, enforcing leash laws when the dog is off owner property and in town parks, cracking down on barking, improper waste disposal, property destruction, licensing compliance, and rabies vaccination compliance, and issuing appearance tickets for noncompliance with town ordinances.

Two full-time Animal Control Officers (ACO) are employed by the Town of Woodbury to continuously patrol the community and gather stray canines. They are sent out by the Woodbury Police Division.

In the Black Lake area of Northern New York, GFAS is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization committed to animal rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming, and for some, a loving forever home. Since 2002, Gracious Friends has taken care of a large number of confiscated, abandoned, or surrendered domesticated animals that have been mistreated and neglected. Donations, grants, and fundraising activities are how we get our money.
