Williamsburg Animal Care and Control

To provide shelter and protection for the unwanted and abandoned animals in Clarendon County, to make adoptions easier, to encourage population control through spay and neuter initiatives, and to inform the local community about how to care for animals.

The Florence Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit charitable organization that was established in 1974 to rescue and care for animals that have been abandoned, mistreated, or neglected in the Florence neighborhood.

Animals are not picked up by our SPCA. Through the City-County Animal Control Department, the service of collecting up stray animals is offered.

Our goal is to provide a loving haven with wholesome food and veterinary treatment for dogs and cats, as well as a temporary residence for those who can be adopted or given to rescue organizations. Our company works hard to provide a safe sanctuary for dogs and cats who are up for adoption at our dog and cat shelter in Sumter, South Carolina. The Florence Area Humane Society recruits volunteers for daily assistance, foster homes, food and treats, kennels, and a variety of other services, while the City of Florence owns and manages the shelter.
