Van Buren County Animal Control

We are committed to saving stray, abandoned, and homeless animals who are up for adoption. Since its founding in February 2005, AFL has provided an alternative to animal control facilities by relocating animals into foster homes until they can be adopted into devoted, long-term homes.

OUR MISSION is to provide the greatest shelter, adoptive homes, information, and resources to the companion animals in our community in a humane manner.

The Allegan and Van Buren Humane Societies rehomes companion animals that can no longer live with their families, provides food and shelter to approximately 600 animals each year from both counties, and educates the public on kind and ethical pet keeping.

By safeguarding and providing for the population of Berrien County, we work to maintain the highest possible standard of living for both people and animals. Promoting pet stewardship by spaying and neutering companion animals while upholding state and local laws.

Throughout it all, one idea has guided us: "It's All About the Animals." To observe our staff's commitment to the animals, their care, and finding them forever homes, you only need to go inside the shelter and speak with them.

While working to find owners or find homes for unwanted animals, we make an effort to offer a clean, happy, and secure environment for dogs and cats that are homeless or that have been released by their owners.
