Numerous breeds of stray animals are available for adoption from the public at the Monroe County Animal Control Shelter. Any county-owned animal may be adopted at the discretion of the Animal Control Division.

Since 2011, the 501c3 nonprofit Friends of Companion Animals Feline Rescue & Adoption Center in Monroe County has worked to keep unwanted litters from growing up on the streets or into the already congested animal shelters.

A private, nonprofit group devoted to assisting animals and the people who care for them is the Lenawee Humane Society. The Lenawee Humane Society was established in 1921 and depends entirely on contributions from individuals like you.
