Keene Road Pet Hospital has been treating pets and their owners in Clearwater and the larger Tampa Bay area for more than 25 years, having opened in the late 1980s. Dr. Cowden and his wife Lynda were able to deliver sincere pleasant down home personal care in the lovely small house with wooden floors on the intersection of Keene Road and Gulf to Bay, and the business developed swiftly. As the company grew, so did the family. Clients recall the children toddling around the hospital, assisting Mom and Dad in their care of the patients. As the kids grew older, Mom had to take on more of a behind-the-scenes manager position so she could devote her full attention to them.

Dr. Steadman Carr founded the Gulf Coast Animal Hospital (later renamed the Veterinarian Hospital of Clearwater) in 1958 in response to a demand for a high-quality, full-service veterinary care facility in the Clearwater, Dunedin, and Safety Harbor areas. Both US 19 and State Road 580 (Main Street) had only two lanes at the time. Where the Countryside Mall now stands opposite from our hospital, there was once only an empty field. Top-notch veterinary care on the cutting edge in an animal hospital where you are treated like family were Dr. Carr's ideals. Dr. Bendit and our staff have carried on those beliefs.
