Dr. Jill Starcevich established the Cheshire Cat Hospital in Westminster in 1993. During her time at Colorado State University's veterinary school, it became clear that feline medical and surgical needs are considerably different from those of other animals. Although cats are currently the most popular pet in America, our understanding of their unique treatment lags well behind that of other animals. Although we (and our cats) are fortunate that research is now spending more resources to feline diseases, putting this growing understanding into the art of medicine necessitates a level of dedication and commitment to the subject that takes a significant amount of time and effort. Our veterinarians attend feline medicine continuing education courses and interact with a network of feline specialists.

The importance of heartworm disease detection and prevention is highlighted during National Heartworm Awareness Month! Heartworms are mosquito-transmitted parasites that dwell in the heart chambers and blood arteries. Heartworms can cause long-term damage to your pet's heart and lungs, as well as death. Coughing that doesn't go away, exhaustion, loss of appetite, and weight loss are all signs and symptoms. Annual heartworm tests and heartworm prevention from your doctor can help you avoid heartworm disease.
