My first dog was named Simon. When he was only six months old, I saved him from the pound. I didn't learn what was permitted by law in dog food until he was nine years old. I was alarmed and outraged. I discovered an entirely unregulated industry in addition to deceptive labels, hazardous chemical preservatives, and nasty "ingredients." I started cooking for my own pets and noticed a difference right away. One that is extremely broken.

Paddywack is a family-run independent shop with only one location. Owners Adam and Shane, a husband and wife team, have more than 35 years of combined expertise in the natural pet food industry. They have previously worked for a number of small, family-run pet supply stores. Adam worked as Paddywack's operations manager until buying the business in July 2014, with Shane concentrating on raising their two young children.

When Elsa Wulff bought a little farm store in 1988, Mud Bay was born. Early on, Mud Bay sold a little of almost everything, from locally grown oysters, pop tarts, and folk art to hog feed, fertilizer, and hay. The store was housed in an 80-year-old building on Mud Bay Road, which runs west out of Olympia and spans the bottom end of Mud Bay, one of the southern arms of Puget Sound. The shop also suffered a loss. Lars, Elsa's son, joined Mud Bay as its third employee in 1989 after realizing that his mother couldn't afford for the company to fail.

In Seattle, Washington, Pet Pros was first established in 1986. Since then, our business has expanded from a single location in North Seattle to 18 locations across Washington, making us one of the biggest independent pet supply merchants in the Pacific Northwest. We value establishing connections in the community where we live, and we'll keep striving to expand farther in the Northwest since we adore this region.
