Buffalo River is a unique undammed river in the United States, running for 137 miles through the Ozark Mountains. At Buffalo National River, pets are welcome, but there are a number of limitations in place to protect park resources, wildlife, and other visitors. With the exception of the Tyler Bend Campground trails (Spring Hollow, Buck Ridge, and Rock Wall in the Middle District) and all three Buffalo Point Campground trails, all park trails are closed to pets (Forest Trail, Overlook Trail, and Campground Trail in the Lower District). All campgrounds, the river, and the gravel bars accept pets, however they must be kept under personal control at all times. You and your dog are allowed to float and enjoy the river.

Natural Bridge Arkansas

This 100-ft. hideaway is nestled in the beautiful grandeur of the Ozarks. The sandstone formation took millions of years to form. During pioneer days, the stone archway was really used as a bridge. On a road trip, this is an excellent area to stop. There's plenty of room for Petzooie to stretch his legs, as well as a few picnic tables where you can enjoy a meal! From mid-March until mid-November, the museum is open.

Whitaker Point Trail

Pets are welcome on the Whitaker Point Trail. Hawksbill Crag, high above the Buffalo River, is one of Arkansas' most beautiful natural sites. You'll need to travel down the pet-friendly Whitaker Point Trail, a popular 3-mile out-and-back trail, to get to this picture-perfect destination. The payoff is a spectacular sandstone outcropping that rises high above the treetops and provides miles of panoramic vistas of the Ozark National Forest.

Ozark Highlands Trail - Indian Creek Trailhead

The Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT) is one of the country's best long-distance hiking trails. It is well-known for its winter trekking chances when many other paths are impassable. It is located in the midst of the South. The best time to visit this trail is from the fall until the spring. The OHT, which has been featured in National Geographic Magazine, The Guardian, and Backpacker Magazine, offers 270 miles of hiking and trekking across some of the region's most difficult and spectacular terrain. The trail is marked with 2′′x6′′ white markers that are nailed to a tree near eye level and oriented vertically. A 12′′ piece of carsonite post oriented horizontally and attached to a tree near eye level and facing the trail serves as a mile marker. The map locations can be found on the webpage.
