Tongass National Forest is the United States' largest national forest, covering about the same area as West Virginia. Recreational activities abound due to the park's vast area, including hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, scenic drive, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife viewing. The park encompasses a large portion of southern Alaska, and there are various pathways for tourists and their dogs to enjoy. Dogs must be on a leash at all times, and owners must clean up after their pets to comply with park laws.

The 4,000-acre Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge is a vast wildlife sanctuary located along the shores of Gastineau Channel near Juneau, Alaska. Visitors are presented with a variety of recreational opportunities, including hiking, boating, and wildlife viewing. The refuge also boasts great fishing and waterfowl hunting.
