Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in Escondido, California, is a dog-friendly location where your dog is welcome to accompany you on the 11 miles of trails that wind around the public area. You can stop for a bite to eat and a stunning mountain vista at one of the picturesque picnic places along the road. Oak riparian, oak woodland, coastal sage scrub, and chaparral trees can all be found in the park. There are many other species that live in the park; perhaps you'll see them while wandering with your dog. On the "Way Up" Trail and Lower Trails, the California leash rule is strictly enforced, and dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. At the top of the "Way Up" Trail, dogs under effective voice command are allowed off leash Monday through Friday (only beyond the designated marker). Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times in the Reserve on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Dogs must also be kept on a leash in parking lots, picnic sites, overlooks, and any other location where they may constitute a danger to people, property, or wild or domestic animals.
