Tolowa Dunes State Park

Pets are welcome at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Bring your dog to one of the last of a long line of redwood parks that stretches up the coast of Northern California. Dogs are not allowed on any of the park's trails, but they are welcome to accompany you on the roads and the beach, as well as the Mill Creek Watershed, logging roads, Walker Road, and Howland Hill Road. Near Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Myrtle Creek Trail and Craig's Creek Trail accept dogs. The park is open from sunrise to sunset every day of the week.

Most people are familiar with Redwood National Park as the site of the world's tallest trees. In addition to huge prairies, oak woods, wild riverways, and approximately 40 miles of rough coastline, the parks safeguard enormous prairies, oak woodlands, and wild riverways. Leashed pets are permitted in some locations, but not on park trails, at ranger-led activities, or in park structures. For further information, go to the website.

Trees of Mystery is a pleasant tourist stop with a big Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, a gift store, a Native American Museum, redwood "oddities and examples of developing patterns," and, last but not least, their very good sky tram that takes you up through the redwoods to a lookout. Up top, there are stunning views of the ocean, as well as redwoods and wildlife. You can even take your dog on the tram, as well as the trails and into the buildings (they will lend you a leash).

Some pet-friendly campgrounds and day-use areas can be found at Sue-Meg State Park. Dogs are not permitted on the beaches or paths of this one-square-mile park, which is surrounded by shrubs. If you want to come on a specific day, you should call the park directly to find out when they open.

On-leash pets are welcome at this Trinidad beach, which is also a fantastic place to watch the surfers.

Dogs are allowed off-leash on the entire beach from October to February. Dogs are only allowed on the waveslope the rest of the year.
