Cambridge Water Department (CWD) is a municipally owned and run water company that serves over 100,000 people in Cambridge. The City Manager is in charge of the CWD's overall operations.

The Eastern Cambridge/Kendall Open Space Study and Connect Kendall Square Open Space Competition, which resulted in a framework plan that will guide the building of three new parks in eastern Cambridge, influenced the park's design (previously known as Rogers Street Park).
