26. Alaska Railroad
The Alaska Railroad welcomes pets. The main line of the Alaska Railroad runs 470 miles from Seward to Fairbanks, linking settlements throughout Southcentral and Interior Alaska. The Alaska Railroad runs all year, with seasonal schedules varying: the busy summer season runs from mid-May to mid-September, while the quieter winter timetable runs from mid-September to mid-May. Pets are only allowed onboard in the baggage compartment and must be in a kennel that has been certified by the airline. When disembarking at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop, kennels can be left adjacent to the train and picked up when you return.

A pet-friendly activity area is attached to Whisper Faith Kovach Park. This gated park is ideal for off-leash enjoyment with your canine companion. The well-kept grass provides a pleasant environment for dogs to exercise, play fetch, and socialize. Owners of dogs are reminded to tidy up after their pets.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors, supports the Bird to Gird Pathway, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in the E Mncplty of Anchorage!
