The Paws Along The River Humane Society was founded in 1931 and is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. A volunteer board of directors creates the organization's mission and policies, ensures that legal obligations are met, manages the finances of its assets, reviews and approves plans and budgets, serves as a community liaison, supports the executive director, finds new board members, and assesses operational effectiveness.

Ridgway Animal Haven

On October 16, 2017, Ridgway Animal Haven was established in response to the demand for a location where stray, abused, and neglected animals in our community might be brought. I proposed fixing their holding pen to the Ridgway Borough Counsel along with other board members. When the animals were prepared to be adopted, the proposition asked whether we could fix their holding pen and arrange adoptions. The Ridgway Animal Haven board and I made the decision to start our own rescue because we were only permitted a 48-hour holding period. We were ultimately able to raise enough money to construct our own building, despite the lengthy procedure and significant community funding requirements.
