The Holsheimer-Lamar Memorial Shelter at 2084 Oregon St. in St. Helens serves as both the county's dog control facility and office. Only by appointment, the shelter is accessible.

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our residents, employees, volunteers, and visitors. We have decided to close the shelter to the public due to worries about controlling the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Limit the number of adoptable animals that are put to death in overcrowded shelters, recover their health, and find them adoptive homes so that they can live out their lives in peace.

Oregon cats in need of new homes can turn to Cat's Cradle Rescue, an all-volunteer, foster-home based No Kill organization. Cat's Cradle Rescue has saved, fostered, and adopted more than 2,000 cats and kittens since 2012 (and counting!).

Throughout Washington County, our staff provides treatment for stray, hurt, and abused animals of all sizes and forms. Six days a week are public hours, and we are available 365 days a year to feed and care for the animals.

Jonnie Hart established Miniature Schnauzer Rescue (MSR) in 1988 with financial support from the Portland Miniature Schnauzer Club. It was intended to assist schnauzers in need of new homes.
