Four people—Joyce Rupp, Penny Jordan, John and Connie Kondravy—were active at the Lancaster County Humane League in 1983 as board members or volunteers. They came to the conclusion that someone needed to offer a 24-hour service to assist the sick, injured, and trapped animals as they learned more about the need of the residents and animals of Lancaster County.

In the picturesque foothills of Acme, Pennsylvania, there is a privately owned, non-profit sanctuary for cats and kittens called Animal Keeper's Rescue, Inc. Over 1,000 cats and kittens have been brought in, cared for, and placed in loving homes since our shelter, which started roughly 35 years ago. Many of our furry companions have been discovered to be unwanted, neglected, or abandoned. We are committed to providing them with the gentle, loving care they need in our home and in our hearts until they are able to find a place in your heart where they may call home. Contact Mary at (724) 423-55713 if you come across an abandoned cat or kitten.

39. Four Footed Friends

Founded in 1982, Four Footed Friends (FFF) is a nonprofit that provides assistance to abandoned animals in Indiana County and the neighboring areas. Every animal has the right to a pain-free life and a pain-free death, in our opinion. Our ultimate objective is to carefully match our animals with people and families who can give them loving, permanent homes. Animals shouldn't be put to death just because they don't have a place to live, in our opinion. Animals stay in our shelter as a result until we find them the ideal home.

40. Kitten Scoop

Our devoted crew and volunteers at Kitten Scoop, a 501 3(c) licensed animal rescue with offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, work diligently to save lives and advance TNR in the neighborhood.
